Under the hood…

Ferris Bueller once said ‘Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop to look around once in a while, you might miss it’. Well, the world of golf has been moving pretty fast too, so we’ve decided we’d take a moment to stop and appreciate how far technology and performance have come

Today's driver technology

All this talk of drivers going too far gives us an interesting debate, but has anybody stopped to ask how it’s happened? How did we get here? I mean, these manufacturers pour endless hours into researching and developing thinner faces and new materials to make the ball go faster & further, with some even using artificial intelligence to ensure optimal performance. They even use super-specific weighting and clever little features that we can’t even see, but they help your drives not just go longer but also straighter.

Lasers and GPS devices

Stepping away from clubs for a minute, you’re probably going to notice more and more pros using rangefinders at Tour events in the coming years. This isn’t new – almost every caddie uses them to map-out courses before the tournament begins – but the degree of accuracy you can get in these distance-measuring devices, be it rangefinders, watches or handheld options, is truly mind-blowing.

Golf balls are changing

Sometimes the best advances don’t have to be the most high-tech. A great example is the way we’re seeing visual alignment aids becoming more and more prevalent on golf balls, with everything from scientifically-developed lines, 50/50 designs, and all-over prints. You might be surprised just how much of a difference it can make to your putting when you have that assurance & confidence at address.

Which technologies have jumped out at you in modern golf? Do you like hitting super-long drives, getting those Tour-level course readings or just holing more putts? Stop by the pro shop any time and we’ll be happy to chat about it. Hey, you might even spot some new tech in-store!
